How many of us left Uni with our dream job in mind, and achieved it?
Gareth Morris, Commercial Estimator for Watermark Constructions, is one such man. Although, it did not come as readily as he had hoped…
After completing his Bachelor of Business – Real Estate and Property Development, he hoped to step straight into an estimator or project management role. This wasn’t to be the case and Gareth found he needed time on the tools to back up his degree, having been met with the advice from the market, ‘…perhaps in 2-3 years.’
Not to be deterred, he set off with the intent to make his dream happen, completing a Cert III in Carpentry and a Cert IV in Building & Construction. During this time, he got his hands dirty working for a small builder and was exposed to a broad range of unique and interesting projects, gaining experience in many aspects of home building.
His dream now within reach, reflective of his self-belief, the required growth, and the work he committed himself to. Further evidence of his true path toward happiness was found by the entrance of the person who would become his wife.
Soon presented with not just one estimating offer, but three, proved the value of his decision to add depth to his resume with onsite experience. Gareth chose the role that would bring him to Queensland and the Sunshine Coast. The role he stepped into served him well and exposed him to estimating for the residential, new home market. Whilst an intellectually stimulating role, and one to set a great foundation in the industry, he was keen to cut his teeth working for a builder that would respect his vision and allow him to create a role he could call his own.
Now an integral part of the booming Commercial division of Watermark Constructions, Gareth has found his home.
Working alongside the Executive Manager of Commercial, Victoria Henderson, Gareth has remarked that he is ‘inspired by her vision and the diversity of projects we are now working on.’
Victoria has been known to refer to Gareth as ‘…having a boundless intellect, and a profound respect for the business.’
He enjoys a great work life balance, living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast close to the office, he will often bring his young and vivacious spoodle – Buddy to the office while he creates bespoke solutions for our clients.
